They dumped a billion apartment floor plans to the AI, so are we doomed? No, not yet.

We know how to use AI automation to analyze and leverage massive data sets. There is an unimaginable number of similar apartments in the form of rectangular boxes in the world. The logic of this situation leaves no doubt.

There is a finite number of functional apartment floor plans, and we have already reached it.

This is perhaps the main concern of the industry

Billions of combinations of rooms and floor plans must have exhausted the issue. Now all you have to do is put it all into AI, and the problems of interior designers are solved. Automation will make it faster and more efficient.

There’s no arguing with that.

Does that mean there is no room for innovation and new solutions?

We live in a world of standards.

For example, those contained in Neufert’s book “Designing Buildings,” facilitate the daily work of a designer. But that does not mean that projects have to be just a copy of those standards.

Designing is art, and art is constant development and the search for new solutions.

Billions of similar boxes, yes, but…

The essence lies in the details.

AI can support the design process in many ways: data analysis, propose solutions, process automation. This saves time and reduces errors. However, it is the details that determine whether the apartment is functional and user-friendly.

What I mean?

Design is the art of creating space for people.

People are unique and have individual needs.

Therefore, the design of housing should also be individual and meet the specific needs of users. Designers must have control over the project and decide what solutions are best for a particular project and its users.

Artificial intelligence can be helpful, but it should not be seen as a panacea for all housing design problems.

AI will never replace an interior designer.
