I design interiors in SketchUp and create their technical documentation in LayOut for a long time.

Over the years, I have found that many architects fail because they try to use LayOut like AutoCad. They treat it like a drawing program and do not realize that they are getting in their own way with this attitude. To be honest, it took me a while to figure that out too.

The main reasons that block the creation of technical drawings in LayOut are:

Misconception: LayOut is used to describe a project, not to draw. If you do not change this belief, you will face extra work and frustration. It’s easy to get discouraged this way.

Clutter when modeling: Once you understand what LayOut is for, you’ll also understand why the order is so essential in SketchUp. Any clutter that occurs later in the process adds to the chaos even more. It’s discouraging.

Ignorance of the tools: trying to display complex geometry in vector view mode in LayOut can lock up your entire computer. It’s easy to get discouraged.
