Do not know anything about 3D modeling? 3 SketchUp principles that will make you want to try it right now.

Working in a 3D view is surprisingly pleasant, but that’s not the main advantage of the program.

Sometimes I wonder if the creators of SketchUp came up with this idea or if they explored it slowly. Regardless of how I am sure there was an explosion of joy. It was probably their “eureka” moment. I have been working with this program for 15 years, and I am always thrilled.

What they have created is beautiful in its simplicity.

#1 Everything consists of a single element.

The cornerstone of any geometry created in SketchUp is the edge.

Three connected coplanar edges form a triangle. Three connected triangles form the simplest spatial figure. Any complex model can be created this way. Think of a rocket ship. It’s all about edges and faces.

That’s the idea of “first principles” in action.

#2 Everything you create sticks to itself.

This is counterintuitive, but it is the greatest advantage.

Every edge you draw, every surface that forms a figure, is connected to every other. The result is that the original model resembles an aggregate of matter. This mass can be freely shaped with simple but powerful tools.

It is deceptively like the world around us, where everything is one.

# 3 The freedom to organize matter.

Just like in real life, in SketchUp, we can divide matter into separate solids.

By grouping edges and the faces they form, we can extract objects from the primary mass. Created elements no longer stick to the rest of matter. The invisible barrier naturally organizes the concept we are modeling.

It is the perfect complement to the first two ideas.

The charm of this program lies in its analogy with reality.

SketchUp allows anyone to start their adventure with 3D modeling smoothly. At the same time, the simplicity of the basic principles does not limit creative design.
